This site is now dedicated to the memory of our best friend and most well loved member ,Alan Petley who sadly passed away in October 2002.We miss you.

WELCOME TO the OLD Folkestone metal detector club Web site. THE CLUB WAS FORMED OVER 20 YEARS AGO AND HAS HAD MANY INTERESTING AND HISTORICAL FINDS, INCLUDING THOSE WHICH ARE PICTURED HERE. ALTHOUGH THE CLUB AS SUCH, NO LONGER EXISTS. THE 3 MAIN MEMBERS CONTINUE TO SEARCH LOCAL FARMLAND AND BEACHES WITH VARYING SUCCESS. WE HAVE HAD SOME OF OUR PAST FINDS RECORDED WITH THE BRITISH MUSEUM AND ALSO HELPED THE LOCAL ARCHAEOLOGISTS DURING THE BUILDING OF THE CHANNEL TUNNEL A FEW YEARS AGO.
THE CLUB ENTERED MANY RALLY COMPETITIONS OVER THE YEARS WINNING A NUMBER OF MAJOR PRIZES, INCLUDING IN 1985 THE ALL ENGLAND CLUB PRIZE.
THE CLUB HAS ALSO FOUND MANY LOST ITEMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC AT NO CHARGE.
WE HAVE A TRIP ONCE A YEAR TO CERTAIN BEACHES IN EUROPE AND ALWAYS RETURN WITH A LARGE AND INTERESTING BAG OF  FINDS
(sites and techniques used here are our secret and only available to ourselves due to years of searching and travelling to hundreds of different sites around Europe)
The club is always looking for new sites to search, so if you think you may have treasure buried on your land, near Folkestone or Dover or anywhere in Kent, we'll have a look for it.
With a 50X50 split on anything valuable, and all finds reported to the land owner .

THE TEAM .
ALAN PETLEY,on the right of this picture is co author of the very funny cartoon book ''the perils of metal detecting''.
Sadly Alan Passed away in October 2002 and he will be very much missed by us all. He was a true ambassador for the hobby, not only did he draw the cartoons in his book "the perils of metal detecting he also had many articles in the 2 monthly magazines .
We now dedicate this site to his memory.
Save some gold for us old friend !

THE EQUIPMENT
The detectors we use are mainly Minelab and
Whites machines as we find these ideal for the
areas we search.
Minelab for the simplicity of use and outstanding
depth and performance inland and on beaches in and out of the
water . Whites for underwater working and
programmable machines such as the XLT for
more specialist sites. Please use the links to find
out more about these machines and other
manufacturers. We have used a number of different manufacturers machines over the years all with
their own good points such as the Compass XP PRO
for working on sites with very high amounts of junk
but the we found the depth of finds was not as good
as other machines. C-Scope probably the most popular
British detector's are also good all-rounder with a great
selection of detectors to choose from.

NOTE:
All the finds shown on these pages are those from the private collections of present and previous members, all are found in or near the Folkestone area .I do not know if they are still owned by the finders or have been subject to any treasure trove inquests although it is club policy to abide by all local laws and country side and metal detector codes of conduct. They are shown here to represent an interesting variety of what lays beneath our feet and with a little luck and patience could be found by anyone with the right knowledge and equipment.
